Praikamarru Guest Houses
There are two Guest Houses, small versions of a traditional Sumba home. In each house a bedroom and bathroom extends out on to a lovely balcony beneath the alang-alang grass roof. With a view of the horse racing field and the mountains in the distance this is a cool, airy place to relax and chew some betel nut. Both Guest Houses have queen size beds inside a large mosquito net, and extra beds with mosquito nets can be provided. There is also a fan, fridge, coffee and tea making facilities and drinking water provided. Aircon is not needed as there are lots of windows and always a lovely breeze up on the hill.
The Guest Houses are 200m from the main house and the centre of the village, where you can eat with the family, learn about the largest megalithic tombstone in East Sumba, see ikat weaving in action and play soccer with the kids of the village.

“I am far beyond glad to find Praikamarru guesthouse! It’s situated in Waingapu city yet the surrounding atmosphere is peaceful and calm, but not boring. There are ‘ikat’ textile weavers within the compound and a horse race arena nearby. The bamboo hut is simple and charming, without compromising the comfort of a proper guesthouse (shower, fridge, reading lamp, water kettle available). The beaches are reachable by motorbike. I’ll definitely stay here in my next trip!” – Intan from Jakarta
“Erdy super welcoming and helped us a lot to start our Sumba experience, such as rented a scooter and provided us very useful information what to do and where to go. The bungalow is lovely, quiet and it was clean and a huge balcony presents one with a gorgeous sunset. I can recommend this accommodation to anyone, great value price.” – Matyas from Budapest
